Hyperloop breaks another high-speed record at 385km/h (240 mph) (Hyperloop/Tube Travel - 2017-12 - TechRepublic)

Virgin Hyperloop One achieved a new speed record of 240 mph last week at its Nevada test track Richard Branson is to become chairman. It has projects underway in the UAE, US, Canada, Finland, the Netherlands, and India. In June, the company announced 9 potential European routes, connecting 75 million people in 44 cities and spanning 5,000 km. It plans to have 3 Hyperloop systems in service by 2021.

China Is planning a 2,500mph "Flying Train" to compete with Elon Musk's Hyperloop (Hyperloop/Flying trains - 2017-09 - Big Think)

China’s state-run space contractor China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation is starting research on a “high-speed flying train” that would reach top speeds of 4,000 km per hour (or 2,485 miles per hour), 10 times the speed of the fastest current bullet train (also Chinese). The concept involves a passenger pod propelled by magnetic levitation through a tube in near-vacuum.

Hyperloop pod breaks own high-speed record at 355km/h (220mph) (Hyperloop/Tube Travel - 2017-08 - BBC News)

This week saw the first tests of prototype carriages or pods on a one-mile-long test track near Los Angeles. A pod made by a German student team came top in this competition. Tests managed to propel one of its pods at 355km/h (220mph), a new record for the technology – only days after a separate prototype hit 324km/h.

Hyperloop One's full system nails first vacuum tube test run (Hyperloop/Train - 2017-07 - ZDNet)

Hyperloop’s first test in a vacuum tube was carried out on May 12 at Hyperloop’s DevLoop track in the Nevada desert, where the bare-bones sled cruised for 5.3 seconds above the track using magnetic levitation. The vehicle achieved 2Gs acceleration and hit its target speed of 70mph. The company will now begin work on the next test, targeting 250mph.

Hyperloop One unveils its new European highways (Hyperloop/Intercity - 2017-06 - TechRepublic)

Nine potential routes, connecting 75 million people in 44 cities, spanning 5,000km, were made public at Hyperloop One’s Vision for Europe Summit. The transport system uses electromagnetic-powered sleds accelerated through vacuum-sealed steel tunnels at speeds of up to 750mph. In the company’s first open-air test of the technology last year, a pod was propelled to more than 100mph over a short track.
