IMPACT ON INDUSTRIES

INTRODUCTION TO  OUR CURRENT LIST OF INDUSTRIES

WHAT INDUSTRIES ARE IMPACTED BY ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGIES?

Clearly all industries are impacted by advances in technology – but in varying degrees, and by different combinations of technologies. Some examples include:

  • Industries, such as manufacturing and retail, are currently in the process of reducing their requirement for human labor as a result of different technologies – additive manufacturing and robotics for manufacturing, AI and robotics for retail.
  • The automobile industry will not only be downsized but completely re-structured, as a consequence of the move to electric motors, combined with the use of AI to drive autonomous vehicles.
  • The professions are starting to face re-structuring issues as different AI technologies (big data, natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning, etc.) are currently taking over a lot of functions performed by clerical and junior staff, and are starting to take over functions performed by intermediate and even senior staff.

WHICH INDUSTRIES ARE BEING TRACKED BY THIS WEBSITE?

We have selected those industries which, in our opinion, are currently being disrupted the most in terms of the change in demand for human labor or the change in skills required. As other industries are impacted more, we expect to add them to this list. (And, if you feel that we are missing an industry that is important to you, please let us know, and we will consider starting to track it.)

Our current list includes:

  1.   Agriculture
  2.   Construction
  3.   Finance
  4.   Law
  5.   Manufacturing
  6.   Media
  7.   Medicine
