MAJOR TYPES OF GENERAL SUPPORT FOR BUSINESSES AND EMPLOYEES

Coaches and Mentors

These are people who share their relevant experiences while providing guidance and support. (Mostly, Coaches charge fees while Mentors volunteer their services.)

You need to respect their experience and suggestions. You also need to relate well with them. This is your best option for help. If you can find one, great! More than one is even better!

Training

Training can be individual or group, on-site or on-line. Some provide Q&A so that your particular issues can be discussed. Subject matter can be specific skills or general life issues.

The primary limitations are the cost of individual attention, the lack of individualized curriculum, and the dependence on the specific experience of the instructor.

Support Groups

Support Groups consist of a varied number of people facing a similar issue. They meet to discuss their individual strategies, challenges, and possible solutions. Experiences are shared. Encouragement is given. It’s a successful form of peer mentoring, rarely found in a business setting (where it is often called a mastermind).

Groups may or may not have a facilitator or mentor to provide guidance.
